Welcome to The PREP PROGRAM!

Designed for aspiring young athletes seeking competition and excellence, Flight Basketball proudly presents The Prep Program, focused on elevating athletes to the next level. With three thrilling tiers—Junior Varsity, Varsity Select, and Varsity Prep—here's what sets us apart:

Junior Varsity Prep (Grades 4 to 7)

  • League & Competitions: Athletes will compete locally from September to February in the Victoria and District Night League and the BC Youth Club Championship in March.

  • Training Structure: Each week includes one practice, one game, and one skills session as part of our Skills Academy.

  • Exhibition Games: There is potential for additional exhibition games throughout the season.

  • Cost: The total cost will depend on the number of teams. Parents have the option of using a payment plan.

  • Focus: Our expert coaches provide top-notch training, nurturing skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship, preparing young athletes for future competitive levels.

Varsity Select (Grade 8)

  • Preparation: This group focuses on preparing athletes for the next level, Varsity Prep, by attending mainland tournaments and competing against top-tier competition.

  • Season Duration: From September to the end of November, ensuring athletes are ready for their high school season.

  • League & Competitions: Athletes will compete in the BC Club Basketball Association League in Vancouver. There will be three to four trips to Vancouver, with some possibly being day trips. Dates will be announced (TBA).

  • Training Structure: Practices will be held twice a week. Athletes are expected to communicate their attendance.

  • Cost: The total cost will depend on the number of teams. Parents have the option of using a payment plan.

Varsity Prep (Grades 9 to 12)

  • Elite Competition: Athletes will compete in four high-level tournaments from September to November, with dates as follows: September 28/29, October 12/13, October 25/27, and November 10/11.

  • Focus: The goal is to prepare athletes for their high school season and our revamped Spring season, emphasizing elite competition and post-secondary recruiting. Our experienced coaches mentor and guide athletes through a season designed to harmonize with high school programs without overwhelming their schedules.

  • Training Structure: Practices will be held twice a week, with athletes expected to communicate their attendance.

  • Cost: The total cost will depend on the number of teams. Parents have the option of using a payment plan.

Placement Camp

The journey begins with our Program Placement Camp at St. Margaret's School (1080 Lucas Avenue)! This camp is your athlete's gateway to the Fall/Winter season (September to February). Our Flight Academy coaches will evaluate participants and direct them toward the appropriate path. Selected athletes will receive invitations to join the elite Flight Prep Program, while others will be guided to the Skills Academy.

Placement Camp Schedule:

  • Dates: Saturday and Sunday, September 7th and 8th

  • Location: St. Margaret's School (1080 Lucas Avenue) and Oak Bay High School

  • Time Slots: Saturday at St.Margarets

    • 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM: U11 Girls

    • 2:30 PM - 3:45 PM: U12/U13 Girls

    • 3:45 PM - 5:00 PM: U15, U16, U17 Girls

    • 5:00 PM - 6:45 PM: U11 Boys, U12 Boys, U13 Boys

    • 6:45 PM - 8:00 PM: U14, U15 Boys

    • 8:00 PM - 9:30 PM: U16, U17 Boys

  • Time Slots: Sunday at Oak Bay

    • 9:00 am to 10:30 am:  U11 Girls, U12 Girls, U13 Girls 

    • 10:30 am to 12:00pm: U14 Girls, U15 Girls, U16 Girls, U17 Girls 

    • 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm: U11 Boys  

    • 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm: U12 and U13 Boys

    • 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM: U14 and U15 Boys

    • 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM: U16 and U17 Boys

Commitment: Families must discuss commitment to the Prep Program before attending the placement camp. Athletes who accept an offer to join the Flight Prep Program are advised against trying out for other clubs, as we seek committed athletes who will not play for different clubs while on a Flight Team.

Additional Information

  • Practices/Games: Practice schedules are not finalized, but traditionally, girls' teams practice/play on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and boys' teams practice/play on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. These may change.

  • Cost Details: Program costs vary based on gym rentals, uniforms, insurance, coaching fees, and team-specific activities. Costs differ per team based on schedules.

  • Returning Athletes: All athletes, including those currently in the Prep Program, must try again for spots for the upcoming season.

  • Team Formation: The number of teams depends on tryout attendance and skill level. Teams will not be formed if we cannot field a competitive team.

  • Subsidizing Costs: Flight offers sponsorships, subsidies, and fee waivers to ensure all athletes can play. We work with families to find solutions.
